Simple Handmade Card Designs

Simple handmade card designs start with an easy layout or card sketch. I want to share with you how I’m inspired to create and how I take my first steps when creating a card. Sometimes, I look through the Stampin’ Up! catalog to get ideas. It’s filled with so many awesome ideas to get your creativity started, plus many of them are easy to copy.

I often dig out old catalogs to find stamp sets I already have to help me get ideas. The Whale Done stamp set originally was in a catalog with some Designer Series Paper. But since I do not have any paper left, and it is now retired, I had to figure out other ways to create the card backgrounds.

Simple Handmade Card Designs Start With Catalog Inspiration

I had so much fun figuring out how to use different stamps to create simple handmade card designs. The original samples used Designer Series Paper, but I found a way to make my own backgrounds. The video shows you how to do this + lots more!

It’s an unlikely pair of stamp sets to use together, but the Artistically Inked stamp set has a great image to create backgrounds for any card!

This stamp made the best “water” for the under the sea cards.

The layout for both of the cards came from an old Stampin’ Up! annual catalog. I shared in the video how to “look” at ideas and change them to create simple handmade card designs. These layouts were small square cards, but it was easy to turn into full-size cards. The basic layout came from the catalog, and then I just changed it to fit the size card I wanted to make.

  1. I get some of my Inspiration for my cards from other stampers like you. I use the catalog for ideas as well as online stampers such as Pinterest. I attend a stamping class and learn how to make cards from an excellent teacher.

  2. Great video, as usual. I get ideas often from Pinterest and usually look for layouts and color choices. Your use of odd shaped stamps for background is genius.
I applaud you for short and well prepared videos.
